"The Meg" is an action thriller film released in 2018. The movie is based on the 1997 novel "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror" by Steve Alten. Set in the present day, the story revolves around a prehistoric giant shark called a Megalodon that resurfaces from the depths of the ocean.

The film begins with a deep-sea research team led by Jonas Taylor (played by Jason Statham) encountering a massive creature while exploring the Mariana Trench. Jonas realizes that the creature is a Megalodon, a species thought to be extinct for millions of years. In an attempt to save his crew, Jonas decides to sacrifice himself by detonating explosive charges to seal off the trench and prevent the Megalodon from reaching the surface.

Years later, a wealthy visionary and oceanographer named Jack Morris (played by Rainn Wilson) funds a state-of-the-art underwater research facility called Mana One. The facility is stationed near the Mariana Trench and aims to explore and study the depths of the ocean. When Mana One's crew becomes trapped in a submersible after encountering the Megalodon, Jonas is recruited by Mac (played by Cliff Curtis), an old friend and the head of the research team, to assist in the rescue mission.

Jonas, along with marine biologist Dr. Zhang (played by Winston Chao) and his daughter Suyin (played by Li Bingbing), embarks on a dangerous journey to save the trapped crew members. As they go deeper into the ocean, they encounter several terrifying encounters with the Megalodon, which grows more aggressive and relentless.

The team faces numerous challenges and setbacks, including battles with the Megalodon and its attempts to breach the surface. They utilize advanced technology and their skills to try and outsmart the massive creature. Along the way, they also discover that there might be more than one Megalodon lurking in the ocean.

Ultimately, the team manages to rescue some of the trapped crew members, but the Megalodon continues to pose a threat. They devise a plan to lure the shark into a deep-sea trench and deploy a submersible with a nuclear warhead. Jonas volunteers to pilot the submersible and sacrifices himself once again to save everyone else.

In the end, the Megalodon is seemingly defeated as the warhead detonates, causing a massive explosion. However, a closing shot hints that there may be other Megalodons still lurking in the depths, setting up the possibility for future encounters.

"The Meg" combines elements of action, suspense, and creature horror as it showcases the terrifying power and danger of a colossal prehistoric shark, making for an exciting and thrilling movie experience.
